BENIN: Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Saturday announced that his administration will soon begin to commission completed projects across the state, an exercise he said could span a month.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua disclosed this in a statement Sunday in Abuja.
According to the statement, Gov. Okpebholo spoke at a rally in Igueben Local Government Area of the state where his ruling All Progressives Congress APC welcomed a wave of high-profile defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, including kinsmen of notable political figure, Chief Tom Ikimi.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd, the governor expressed his gratitude to the APC members and the people of Igueben.
He said; “I want to thank all members of APC in Igueben Local Government Area. I want to thank the people who decided to say Edo is working again,” he stated.
Drawing a parallel to ongoing infrastructure developments in the nation’s capital, Abuja, the governor revealed ambitious plans for Edo State.
“Very soon, we will replicate what Nyesom Wike is doing in the Federal Capital Territory FCT by commissioning projects for a whole month. We are planning that in Edo State. We will soon commence the commissioning of completed projects across the three senatorial districts of the State”, he stated.
Governor Okpebholo noted that the recent influx of defectors into the APC was a clear indication of his administration’s positive strides.

“They decided that the only way they can pay us back is to come and join us. Today, the narrative is changing,” he remarked.
He then linked this momentum to a broader political objective, stating, “That means my promise of 2.5 million votes to the President comes 2027 is possible.”
The Governor also turned his attention to his administration’s strong commitment to infrastructure development, a central promise of his campaign.
He critically contrasted his government’s actions with those of the previous administration.
“The past government said they were going to do a seaport; they never did a half kilometre. But today, we are doing it. We are constructing roads across Edo.”
He pledged a swift pace of development, vowing, “We are going to do what they could not do for eight years in one year. Our work will speak for us.”
The rally also featured addresses from other prominent APC figures, including Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (retd), APC leader in Edo Central Senatorial District, and APC state Chairman, Jarret Tenebe.
A significant highlight of the event was the defection of several key PDP members, bolstering APC’s ranks in the region.
Notable among the defectors were Hon. Eugene Inegbobho, the sitting member of the Edo State House of Assembly representing Igueben; Hon. Felix Omi Imiesili, a two-time council chairman and former State PDP Secretary; and Hon. Sylvanus Igbogbo, who led other members in joining the APC.
