ABUJA: Nigeria edged Rwanda 1-0 on Saturday to keep their hopes alive in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with substitute Tolu Arokodare scoring the match-winning goal early in the second half.

Arokodare, introduced after the break, capitalized on a defensive blunder in the Rwandan box to flick home in the 51st minute.

His effort clipped the crossbar before crossing the line, sealing all three points for the Super Eagles.

The victory lifts Nigeria to third place in Group C with 10 points, just one behind Benin Republic and six adrift of table-toppers South Africa — their next opponents in the qualifiers.

With today’s defeat of Rwanda, Nigeria’s Super Eagles remain firmly in contention for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
