AKURE: A girl identified as Augustina Mowari has been arrested in Okitipupa, Ondo State, following the death of her boyfriend, Michael Ikuedowoni, whom she allegedly stabbed over accusations of infidelity.
The couple, who had reportedly been living together for several years in a one-room apartment, began experiencing significant relationship issues due to Michael’s alleged involvement with another woman.
Sources close to the pair indicate that their disputes over trust and suspected cheating escalated into a violent altercation.
“They started having issues over trust and alleged cheating by the victim, and this degenerated into an altercation,” one source revealed, adding that the “misunderstanding over cheating and lack of trust degenerated into a violent altercation between the lovers.”
Another source corroborated this, stating, “Both of them had been having issues. The lady accused Michael of cheating on her with another woman, which led to a heated argument.”
During the confrontation, Mowari allegedly used a pair of scissors to stab Ikuedowoni in the leg.
Initially, Michael was taken to a local hospital where he received treatment, including injections and medication, and was subsequently discharged. However, his condition worsened at home.
“After being discharged, his condition deteriorated at home. His leg became swollen, and he was rushed back to the hospital on Sunday night. Unfortunately, he passed away despite the doctors’ efforts to save him,” a source explained.
When contacted, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and the arrest.
“There was an argument between the two, which led to the suspect stabbing the victim with scissors,” Ayanlade stated, confirming that the victim later died at the hospital.
Ayanlade added that Augustina Mowari is currently in police custody, and the case will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
