ABUJA: Katsina Central senator, Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, has denied rumours that he plans to ditch the ruling All Progressives Congress APC for the opposition African Democratic Congress ADC.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army said he remains fully committed to the APC and its goal of national development.

Reports of his alleged departure surfaced amidst a wave of defections to the ADC by opposition leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and Labour Party LP, as part of a strategy to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement released on Sunday, Senator Yar’adua dismissed the claims, accusing some media outlets of engaging in mischief.

He also clarified that his political activities should not be confused with those of other individuals who share his surname.

“I wish to categorically reaffirm my unwavering commitment and support for the All Progressives Congress APC. I urge the Press to disregard any speculative headlines suggesting my defection from the party. It is essential to clarify that not all individuals sharing the Yar’Adua surname imply a political association with me,” he stated.

The senator affirmed his dedication to working with the Senate leadership to support President Tinubu’s legislative agenda.

He highlighted several of the President’s key initiatives, including increased allocations to states and local governments, funding for critical infrastructure, and mass recruitment in security agencies to enhance national security.

“As political leaders, I believe we must join hands with Mr President to make this administration succeed and ensure the common man feels the impact of the reforms of the APC-led Federal Government,” he noted.

Yar’Adua reiterated his position, stating, “I remain committed to the APC and will work with leaders across the board to ensure the unity, progress and prosperity of all Nigerians.”
