
ABUJA: The Federal Government has dismissed 15 personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service NCoS and demoted 59 others.
Public Relations Officer of the NCoS, Abubakar Umar who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja said the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board CDCFIB had concluded disciplinary proceedings for 231 cases involving personnel of the Service.
According to him, the decisions were made after a thorough review by the Board’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee BDGPC.
Following the investigation, the board took the following actions: 15 personnel were dismissed for serious misconduct and violating service regulations; 59 officers were demoted in rank for confirmed breaches of professional standards; 42 personnel were issued written warning letters; and, 16 personnel were exonerated after being found not guilty.
Other decisions were; Seven staff members are currently suspended pending further investigation; One officer was suspended and recommended for handover to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC for prosecution due to the gravity of their offense; Eight personnel were compulsorily retired; One officer’s rank was reversed and was directed to refund all earnings received while holding the wrong rank.
Umar said the NCoS, under the leadership of Controller General Sylvester Nwakuche, has assured the public that all disciplinary actions will continue to be handled with fairness and in strict compliance with existing rules and procedures.
“The board, led by Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, reiterated its commitment to maintaining high ethical and professional standards across all cadres of the service”, he added.
