ABUJA: The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on Thursday announced that it has started shortlisting associations for political party registration after receiving a total of 151 applications.
The commission plans to release the full shortlist after the August 16 bye-elections.
According to a statement from INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the decision was made during the commission’s weekly meeting on Thursday.
He noted that eight new letters of intent have been received since the last update on July 23, bringing the total number of applications to 151.
CVR Set to Resume
Olumekun also provided an update on the upcoming nationwide Continuous Voter Registration CVR.
The CVR will take place in 811 centres across the country, including all 774 Local Government Area offices and 37 State and FCT offices. The exercise will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, except on public holidays.
To help citizens find registration centres, INEC is launching an “online CVR Live Locator” which will go live on August 17. The locator can be accessed at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.
The commission has also uploaded a 38-page document with the addresses of all registration centres and provided dedicated telephone numbers for each state to serve as a help desk.
The process for both online and in-person registration will remain the same as in 2022.
INEC plans to release detailed information and video clips next week to guide citizens through the process.
