ILORIN: Thirty-eight persons abducted during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom following days of coordinated security operations ordered at the highest levels of government.

This was contained in a statement issued Sunday in Ilorin and signed by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Governor AbdulRazaq, who announced the development with what he described as “immense relief and gratitude,” attributed the successful rescue entirely to the hands-on leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He said the President personally led the efforts that culminated in the release of the abductees earlier today, November 23.

According to the statement, President Tinubu had cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa to address the security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi states. He also ordered heightened deployments to Kwara, including the dispatch of four tactical police teams, reflecting what the Governor described as the President’s firm commitment to the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians.

The Governor extended appreciation to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency and the Nigeria Police Force for their roles in the rescue operation. He also thanked religious leaders, opinion moulders and residents of Kwara State for their support since the incident occurred.

AbdulRazaq said the release of the abducted worshippers was a major relief to the state, assuring that the government will continue working with security agencies to strengthen safety across communities.
