ABUJA: The Federal Capital Territory FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has raised an alarm over the rising prevalence of the “get-rich-quick” syndrome, cybercrimes, and examination malpractices among Nigerian youths.

In a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja by the FCT Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Monica Ojobi, the Commandant described such prevailing vices as a critical challenge facing the nation’s younger generation.

Commandant Odumosu spoke while granting audience to a delegation from the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students NANNS at the Command Headquarters in Wuse Zone 5.

During the visit, the student body honoured the Commandant with a meritorious Award of Excellence, naming him an “Icon of Selfless Distinction.”

Odumosu noted that the recognition further underscores the importance of synergy between security institutions and student bodies in addressing societal challenges and nurturing future leaders.

Addressing the delegation, the FCT NSCDC boss emphasized that the desire for quick wealth and academic dishonesty undermines national development and the integrity of the youth population.

He expressed deep appreciation for the honour, describing the award as humbling and motivating, while dedicating the recognition to his management team and the officers and men of the Corps whose relentless support remains undeniable.

“I am truly grateful to the leadership of NANNS for this gesture. This recognition is not mine alone; I dedicate it to my management team and personnel whose relentless support is undeniable,” Odumosu stated.

He commended the NANNS leadership for their selfless commitment to making a difference through a proactive approach to nation-building, particularly their efforts in organizing symposia and seminars aimed at sensitizing students against social vices.

The Commandant reaffirmed his commitment to continued service and pledged to collaborate with the association to ensure that negative activities among students are brought to the barest minimum in the FCT.

Earlier, leader of the delegation, Comrade Ibrahim Isah Adamu, stated that the award was in recognition of Commandant Odumosu’s outstanding leadership, dedication to national service, and unwavering commitment to youth development.

He lauded the FCT Boss for the visible transformation of the FCT Command since assumption of office, noting that his practical efforts in strengthening security and promoting civic responsibility are highly commendable.

“Your practical efforts in strengthening security, promoting civic responsibility and supporting initiatives that positively engage Nigerian youths is commendable,” Isah stated.

The high point of the visit was the formal presentation of a medal, a certificate of appreciation, and the Award of Excellence to Commandant Odumosu by the NANNS leadership.
