.Slams ADC, threatens legal action over Adamawa sandidate substitution
ABUJA: Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Babachir Lawal, has taken a swipe at the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress ADC, Atiku Abubakar, likening him to a “cheap product” purchased from the online marketplace, TEMU, over the party’s handling of its Adamawa State governorship primary.
Lawal, in a Facebook post on Sunday titled “Kachalla Series Three,” accused Atiku of arm-twisting the ADC’s national leadership into replacing Engr Umar Suleiman, who he said won the party’s Adamawa governorship primary in a landslide, with Tukur Moddibo, a development he attributed to ethnic considerations.
“As the story goes on the streets in the state, APC donated its gubernatorial candidate to the state having purchased him from TEMU the cheap online market place, and it appears that the ADC too has just done likewise, aside giving to the nation a presidential candidate that looks more like he too was a cheap product from TEMU,” Lawal said.
He alleged that the substitution of Suleiman with Moddibo was influenced by pressure from Atiku, whom he accused of favouring candidates along religious and ethnic lines.
“Clearly, Engr Umar Suleiman, a very competent and experienced gentleman, poses a very big threat to this hegemonic plan to oppress and denigrate the aboriginal ethnic nationalities of the state,” he said, insisting that Suleiman had a stronger chance of winning the general election than Moddibo.
Lawal further described the substitution as a violation of the Electoral Act 2026, the ADC Constitution and the party’s Primary Election Guidelines, and vowed that the matter would be challenged in court.
“This criminal substitution which violates the Electoral Act 2026, the ADC Constitution, and the ADC Primary Elections Guidelines will be tested in the courts and it will fail woefully,” he said.
He maintained that the people of Adamawa State would resist what he called an attempt to impose an unpopular candidate on them, warning that both the ADC and the All Progressives Congress APC risked losing the governorship election as a result.
“The Adamawa masses trust God that both the ADC and APC will lose the gubernatorial elections in the state,” he said, adding that voters in the state had “several other options” among candidates from other political parties.
