UGHELLI: The Owheologbo community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State is in mourning following the brutal murder of a well-known cement seller and PoS operator, Miss Happy Odhegba.
A man identified as Mr. Mayor, who allegedly committed the crime, is now on the run.
The suspect, reportedly from Imo State, had been living in the community for six months and had a business relationship with the victim. He fled the scene with the victim’s lady’s bike.
According to human rights activist Comrade Isreal Joe, the tragedy occurred at the suspect’s home on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Sources claim the suspect had sent his girlfriend away before inviting the victim over, a move community members believe points to a premeditated act.
A source who recounted hearing a serious argument said; “They were arguing seriously. But no one knew what happened next, when people came later, she was already in a pool of her own blood. Mayor had fled the scene.”
The community’s President General, Morrison Iluesure, Esq., expressed the community’s grief, stating, “There is sadness in the community, and in the family of the victim. She was the breadwinner.”
Iluesure confirmed that the community’s vigilante group has been mobilized to search for the suspect.
A one-million-naira reward has been offered for information leading to his arrest.
At the crime scene, a battle axe, a hammer, and the victim’s PoS machine with scattered Naira notes were allegedly found. These are believed to be the weapons used to inflict fatal wounds on the woman, who was in her mid-20s.
Delta State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, stated he was unaware of the incident but promised to take swift action.
“If the suspect is currently at large, we are going to do everything possible to track him down and ensure he faces the full wrath of the law,” he said.
In response to the growing tension, angry youths have taken to the streets, demanding justice.
The police have since cordoned off the crime scene and launched a manhunt for the suspect.
The remains of Miss Happy have been moved to an undisclosed morgue for an autopsy.
The police have also arrested two people for questioning: the man who brought the suspect to the community and his landlord.
The President General, Iluesure, called for calm, urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
