ABUJA: The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory FCT Command, has deployed 4,500 personnel across Abuja to guarantee maximum security during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration on October 1, 2025.

FCT Commandant of the Corps, Dr Olusola Odumosu, said the deployment was necessary to protect lives, property, and critical national assets and infrastructure before, during, and after the independence festivities.

According to him, the personnel were drawn from elite formations including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) unit.

Odumosu in a statement by the Command Spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobi, explained that NSCDC officers have been stationed at shopping malls, markets, prayer grounds, motor parks, amusement parks, recreational centres, the City Gate, the Three Arms Zone, and major government buildings.

He revealed that undercover operatives have also been deployed for covert surveillance to prevent emergencies or security breaches, while black spots such as uncompleted buildings known to harbour criminals are under strict monitoring.

“All Area Commanders and Divisional Officers must ensure their presence is strongly felt in every Area Council. I will not tolerate any form of breach,” the Commandant stated.

The NSCDC boss urged residents of Abuja to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements.

“My personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful Independence Day celebration, but citizens must also play their part by being proactive,” he said.

Odumosu also issued a stern warning to criminals and vandals targeting national assets, stressing that NSCDC covert officers are strategically positioned across the capital city and would bring offenders to justice

While assuring residents of safety, he advised officers to act professionally, avoid harassment of citizens, and work in synergy with other security agencies.

He wished Nigerians a joyous 65th Independence Anniversary, praying for peace, unity, and the well-being of the nation.
