BENIN: Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State says his administration is fully committed to delivering quality infrastructure, as the state’s first-ever flyover at Ramat Park, Benin City, has now reached 60 percent completion.

The governor, who inspected the project on Monday in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and assured residents that funds allocated to the state by the federal government under President Bola Tinubu are being judiciously utilized.

“This project is being executed with the money given to us by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and it shows that the Renewed Hope Agenda is working. The money is working for Edo people,” Okpebholo was quoted as saying, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.

He added that the flyover, alongside other ongoing road and drainage projects across the state, would showcase the difference between the All Progressives Congress APC and the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, stressing that his government was determined to work for the people who elected it.

The governor’s inspection tour began at Uteh Road, continued through Palace Road and Upper Mission Extension, before climaxing at the Ramat Park construction site. He was cheered by residents, traders, and commuters as he made several stops to check drainage works and interact with engineers.

Giving an update on the project, Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Phoebe Bello Williams, confirmed that construction was progressing ahead of schedule.

“The flyover was awarded in December for an 18-month duration, but from the pace of work, the contractor will deliver it in 14 months. One abutment has been completed, and the beam on one side has been launched. Retaining walls and side drains are ongoing, and by the end of the rainy season, pavement work will begin,” she explained.

The Ramat Park Flyover, when completed, will feature three lanes, including shoulders and drainage access culverts. It is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Benin City, improve mobility, and enhance the state’s infrastructure profile.

This landmark project is the first flyover in Edo State’s history.
