BENIN: The Edo State Executive Council has approved a revised supplementary budget of N799.820 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, representing an increase of about N125 billion or 18 percent from the initial N675.220 billion.

The approval was granted during an emergency executive meeting presided over by Governor Monday Okpebholo in Benin City on Monday.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, said the upward review underscores the administration’s commitment to massive infrastructure development across the state.

“Previously, we had a budget of N675 billion with recurrent expenditure at about 33 percent and capital expenditure at 67 percent. The new revised budget now allocates about 70 percent to capital expenditure and 30 percent to recurrent expenditure. This clearly shows Governor Okpebholo’s focus on infrastructural development in Edo State,” Okoebor said.

He explained that of the N125 billion increment, N113 billion would go into capital projects while N12 billion would cover recurrent expenditure, noting that the adjustment became necessary due to the recent increase in minimum wage and new employment in critical sectors such as the state’s hospital management board.

Highlighting ongoing development efforts, Okoebor disclosed that the administration has already delivered 254 kilometres of roads across Edo State, with several other projects currently underway.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, added that the revised supplementary budget would be transmitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.
