BENIN: Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed profound gratitude to the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, after receiving a royal birthday gift from the revered monarch.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Free Itua, in a statement said the symbolic presentation, which took place on Monday at the Governor’s Office in Benin City, was carried out by the Oba’s eldest daughter, Princess (Mrs) Iku Aimiuwu Ewuare, accompanied by Mr. Frank Irabor, Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council.
In his response, Governor Okpebholo described the gesture as humbling and reaffirmed his loyalty to the Benin throne and commitment to the development of Edo State.
“I am short of words as my father, the Oba of Benin, is sending me a gift. I am delighted and very honoured,” the Governor said. “According to an adage in my community, if you wash your hands well, you can eat with the elders. That is what I am seeing today. For this recognition, I will not take it for granted.”
He further assured that his administration would remain dedicated to serving the people of Edo State, while acknowledging the monarch’s prayers and blessings as a source of strength.
Earlier, Mr. Irabor explained that the visit was at the directive of the Oba, who instructed Princess Aimiuwu to present the gift on his behalf.
Princess Aimiuwu, while delivering the royal gift, conveyed her father’s birthday wishes and prayers for the Governor. “I am pleased to be here today on behalf of my father to present this gift to you. Happy birthday again. Long life and prosperity to you,” she said.
The presentation highlights the enduring influence of the Benin Monarchy in state affairs and the mutual respect between Governor Okpebholo’s administration and traditional institutions.
