ABUJA: The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has said it arrested 563 drivers in July 2025 for attempting to bribe its marshals during routine patrols, with Osun State topping the chart.
FRSC Assistant Corps Marshal and Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, revealed that Osun State had the highest number of offenders, with 155 drivers caught attempting to influence officers on duty.
Corps Marshal of the Corps, Shehu Mohammed commended the Osun Sector Command for its “vigilance, professional conduct, and resolute action against extortion and inducement.”
He noted that the high number of arrests, recorded under the Corps’ Anti-Corruption Surveillance ACS initiative, demonstrates a strong commitment to combating corruption and rebuilding public trust.
Mohammed specifically praised Assistant Route Commander Babatunde J. Owoeye of the Osun Command, who was personally responsible for 104 of the 563 arrests in July.
The Corps Marshal warned that attempts to bribe officers are a criminal offence under Nigerian law and will not be tolerated.
He stated that the FRSC is focused on building a culture of integrity and will continue to praise officers who reject unethical offers.
The road safety boss also underscored the importance of performance evaluation, targeted enforcement and values-based reorientation as key strategies for maintaining discipline within the service.
He urged motorists to follow road safety rules and avoid trying to bribe officials, as such actions carry serious penalties.
The Corps Marshal also encouraged all patrol teams to maintain their professionalism and focus on their duties nationwide.
