LOKOJA: The Kogi State Government has reiterated its commitment to using the recently signed Food For Lagos partnership to boost its agricultural sector and improve the lives of local farmers.

The initiative aims to create a robust food supply chain between Kogi and Lagos states.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, explained the strategic steps taken by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to turn the partnership into a success.

According to him, less than two weeks after the agreement was signed, Governor Ododo has begun implementing measures to increase food production, enhance infrastructure and attract investment into the state’s agricultural sector.

“The Governor didn’t just go there to sign papers,” Fanwo said. “He has since returned home to roll up his sleeves and make the partnership a huge success. With the Governor’s efforts, Kogi farmers will earn more from their agricultural produce.”

The state’s Ministry of Agriculture has already mapped out key areas for specific crops to maximize their contribution to the value chain.

As a leading producer of cassava, Kogi is now working to dominate other areas of food production.

Fanwo praised Governor Ododo for placing agriculture at the centre of his development agenda since the beginning of his administration.

He noted major government programmes like the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project RAAMP, which is improving rural roads, and the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes ACReSAL, which is channeling investments into rural farming communities.

He also noted that the state’s success in combating rural insecurity has led to an increase in farming activities and boosted farmer confidence.

According to him, the “Food for Lagos Project” is a game-changer for both states, promising not only to supply Nigeria’s largest city with food but also to create wealth and empower the economy of Kogi State.
