ABUJA: President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has refuted recent online reports that he was critically ill, stating that he is “hale and hearty.”
In a statement released late Thursday night by his media aide, Jackson Ude, Akpabio clarified that he is currently in London after traveling to Geneva for a parliamentary engagement.
The statement was issued to counter viral posts claiming that he was battling an undisclosed illness and receiving emergency medical treatment in a London hospital.
“He said the post about him being sick is not true and should be disregarded,” the statement read.
Akpabio assured Nigerians that he remains committed to his duties and will return to the country soon.
The clarification follows widespread speculation online that he had to make a detour to London from Geneva for a medical emergency.
