
BENIN: Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has announced his administration’s commitment to revitalizing education, with a particular focus on reopening the College of Education, Igueben in the Edo Central Senatorial District.
According to the governor, the revival of the college is a crucial step toward bringing much-needed development to Igueben.
Speaking at an All Progressives Congress APC campaign over the weekend, Governor Okpebholo assured residents that the state’s higher education institutions would receive the attention they deserve.
“We are reviving the College of Education, Igueben,” he stated, adding that his administration has also launched a ₦1 billion bursary scheme for Edo indigenes in tertiary institutions.
Apart from infrastructural development, the governor noted several other achievements under his administration and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He listed them to include the purchase of new tractors to support farmers; clearing debts and reopening the state’s transport company, Edo Line; procuring new security vehicles and intensifying the fight against kidnapping as well as banning illegal revenue collection.
During the campaign tour, which included stops in Ward 4, 7, 8, Uzea Kingdom, and Ebele Kingdom, Governor Okpebholo was warmly received by local leaders.
He also welcomed new members to the APC, including former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Friday Itula.
The governor urged residents to support President Tinubu, stating, “anyone who wants the progress of this country should vote for Mr President because he loves Edo State.”
The event was attended by several key APC leaders, including Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, and APC Senatorial Leader, Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe (retd).
