IBADAN: The newly appointed Assistant Coach for the Shooting Stars Sports Club 3SC, Akin Olowokere has died after collapsing during a training session on Monday morning.
The sudden death of the coach has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian football community.
According to eyewitnesses, Olowokere collapsed on the pitch while the team was in the middle of their Monday morning practice.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“He slumped on the pitch during the team’s Monday morning training session and was rushed to the hospital,” a source stated. “He was, however, confirmed dead at the hospital where he was rushed to.”
Olowokere was a recent addition to the 3SC coaching staff, brought on after the club’s previous coaching team, led by Gbenga Ogunbote, departed.
Details surrounding the exact cause of his death have not been officially released. The club is yet to issue a formal statement on the tragic incident.
A former player for Sunshine Stars of Akure, Olowokere was a respected figure in Nigerian football.
His untimely passing has been met with shock and sorrow by his colleagues and fans.
