Lagos Mainland Anglican Diocese Holds Trinity Ordination, Licenses New Priests

LAGOS: The Diocese of Lagos Mainland (Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion) on Sunday held its Trinity Ordination Service at Bishop Adelakun Howell Memorial Anglican Church, Surulere, with the theme “In His Service.”

The colourful service, attended by dignitaries across the Church, was presided over by the Diocesan, Rt. Revd. Akinpelu Johnson, and had in attendance the Lord Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Asaba, alongside senior clergy, laity, families, and well-wishers.

Preaching the sermon, the Very Revd. Adebola Ojofeitimi, Bishop-Elect of Ilesha South-West Diocese, charged the new ministers to embrace humility, holiness, and sacrificial service in their calling.

Diaconate

Five ordinands — Ademuji Samuel Kolawole, Ewuzie Ebuka Ikechukwu, Iloelunachi Emeka Emmanuel, Obichukwu Izuchukwu Christian, and Okpala John Izuchukwu — were admitted into the order of Deacons, marking the beginning of their ministry as servants at the altar, proclaimers of the Word, and witnesses of Christ’s kingdom.

Eight Clergy Licensed as Priests

Similarly, eight clergymen were licensed as Priests, empowering them to fully administer the sacraments and shepherd God’s flock. They are Ven. Ukwu Ugochukwu V., Rev. Obidinma Josiah E., Rev. Dr. Osijonwo Lanre Jolapamo, Rev. Oluwayomi Olanrewaju M., Rev. Oyawale Olusegun Francis, Rev. Opeyokun Olatunji S., Rev. Onwuaso Azubuike K., and Rev. Koleoso Opelami Adekola.

The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by the Dean of the Cathedral, Ven. Segun Ajayi, while the Litany was led by Ven. Feyi Ojelabi. Bible readings were taken by prominent legal luminaries.

The service was marked with splendour, featuring venerables in full copes, canons and priests fully vested, clergy wives, families, friends, and parishioners in attendance.

The event also doubled as a grand Thanksgiving to mark the 19th Anniversary of the Diocese and the 9th enthronement anniversary of the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd. Akinpelu Johnson.
