ABEOKUTA: The New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP has dismissed as null and void the purported expulsion of Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, describing it as a desperate move engineered by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday, the NNPP National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, said the pronouncement was made by Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, a former Kano State Chairman of the party, who had already been expelled alongside Kwankwaso and his loyalists.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the FCT High Court judgment of April 3, 2025, and the Abia State High Court ruling confirmed the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and others, including Dungurawa. Therefore, he has no legal standing to take any decision on NNPP matters, let alone expel a serving House of Representatives member,” Oginni stated.

He accused Kwankwaso of orchestrating the move to discredit Jibrin after his failed attempts to secure concessions from President Bola Tinubu before defecting to the All Progressives Congress APC.

“Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin’s determination to stand his ground has unsettled the Kwankwasiyya group, pushing them into this baseless political drama,” Oginni added.

Turning to Kano politics ahead of the 2027 elections, Oginni warned Governor Abba Yusuf against what he described as “blind loyalty” to Kwankwaso, cautioning that such allegiance could cost NNPP control of the state.

“One of the smartest strategies for Governor Yusuf to retain Kano in 2027 is to reconcile with the party’s founders and leadership in Lagos,” he advised.

The development underscores the deepening NNPP crisis and the widening rift between loyalists of Kwankwaso and the party’s national leadership, with Kano—its political stronghold—now at the heart of the battle.
