ABUJA: Labour Party LP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.

Obi confirmed the meeting in a post on his official X handle, where he described Jonathan as an “elder brother, statesman, and leader.” He noted that their discussions focused on national issues and the state of the country.

“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation,” Obi wrote.

Details of the conversation were not disclosed, and it remained unclear if the talks touched on the 2027 presidential race.

Speculations have persisted in political circles that both Obi and Jonathan have been approached by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP as potential candidates for the forthcoming elections.
