ABUJA: The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has commended JRB Construction Company Limited for what he described as impressive and professional handling of the reconstruction of the Abuja–Keffi dual carriageway.

Umahi gave the commendation during an on-the-spot inspection of the project, where he expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work delivered by the indigenous firm, even as he pointed out areas requiring further perfection to meet the ministry’s standards.

The minister recalled that JRB Construction was awarded the emergency intervention reconstruction of the road in October 2025 and noted that the company had since demonstrated remarkable speed, competence and commitment in executing the project.

However, Umahi was less impressed during his inspection of the section being handled by China Harbour Engineering Company, warning the firm to complete and hand over the project by the end of February or face sanctions in line with the contract terms.

“I am giving you the end of February to hand over this job. You must come to my office on Wednesday with your timetable and a commitment to complete the project by then,” he said.

The minister stressed that 2026 would be an “action year” for the Ministry of Works, declaring that indiscipline, negligence and failure to carry out directives would no longer be tolerated.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of JRB Group, Mr. Jimoh Rauf, commended the Federal Government for empowering indigenous construction companies to demonstrate their capacity and professionalism in the delivery of critical infrastructure.

“I assure you that by the end of March 2026, this project will be completed,” Rauf said.
