KADUNA: The Kaduna State Police Command has discovered and recovered a significant cache of military-grade explosives and assorted ammunition from a scavenger’s facility in the Kudenda Industrial Area of Kaduna South Local Government Area.
The discovery, made on August 2, 2025, was the result of a tip about suspicious items suspected to be Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs).
According to a statement by Command Spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the items were found among wastes recently transported from Borno State, a region with ongoing insurgency-related activities.
Upon receiving the intelligence, a specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal EOD team was immediately deployed.
The team confirmed that the items were indeed unexploded military-grade bombs.
“The EOD team swiftly evacuated the dangerous devices to a secure location for safe detonation in accordance with established safety protocols,” the statement said.
In addition to the explosives, police also recovered a locally fabricated revolver pistol loaded with six rounds, fifteen rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition, three live cartridges and other assorted ammunition.
Following the operation, Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, ordered the immediate sealing of the premises for a comprehensive search to ensure no other explosive devices remained.
CP Muhammad reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
He also issued a stern warning to all scavenger companies and depots in the state to stop accepting consignments from conflict-prone areas, especially the North-East.
He directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers DPOs to strictly enforce this directive and arrest violators.
The Command asked the public to remain vigilant and cooperative as efforts to rid the state of dangerous materials continue.
