LAGOS: The West African Examinations Council WAEC has issued a formal apology to candidates and the public after discovering technical glitches in the recently released results of its West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE for School Candidates 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday by Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC explained that the glitches were an unintended consequence of new measures implemented to combat examination malpractice.

These measures included a “paper serialization” method applied to key subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

WAEC’s internal review, conducted after the results were released, uncovered “unexpected technical bugs” that affected the accuracy of some scores.

Consequently, the council has announced that access to the results on its portal will be temporarily suspended to rectify the issues.

WAEC has pledged to resolve the matter with “transparency and urgency” within the next 24 hours.

The council expressed deep regrets for any inconvenience caused and advised candidates who have already checked their results to do so again after the 24-hour period for updated and accurate information.

“WAEC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes,” the statement concluded.
