Okpebholo Appoints Prof. Eunice Omonzejie as Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University

BENIN: Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Prof. (Mrs.) Eunice Eboserehimen Omonzejie as the new Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University AAU, Ekpoma.

According to a government announcement on Monday and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, the appointment takes immediate effect and followed the recommendation of three candidates submitted by the Governing Council of the university.

Prof. Omonzejie, a renowned scholar of French and Francophone African Literatures, has been a long-serving academic in AAU’s Department of Modern Languages. She is widely respected for her contributions to African and Francophone literary studies, gender studies, and cultural studies.

A prolific researcher and editor, she has co-edited works such as French Language in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of UFTAN Pacesetters and Language Matters in Contemporary West Africa. She is also the author of Women Novelists in Francophone Black Africa: Views, Reviews and Interviews.

Beyond her academic achievements, Omonzejie has been a strong advocate for women in academia, serving as President of the Ambrose Alli University Chapter of the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS), where she promoted mentoring, research, and advocacy for female scholars and students.

The state government described her appointment as a recognition of her academic excellence, administrative experience, and commitment to the growth of the institution. It also expressed confidence that she will strengthen AAU’s mandate of producing world-class graduates and fostering research and innovation.
