One Dead as Security Operatives Open Fire in Kaduna Market, Sparking Youth Protest

KADUNA: A shooting incident in the Barnawa area of Kaduna on Monday resulted in the death of one person and sparked a protest by local youths.

According to eyewitnesses, security operatives arrived at the Barnawa Market and began firing shots into the air, causing widespread panic among traders, shoppers, and residents.

A source stated that a bullet struck a person who was playing football nearby with a group of youths and children. The victim reportedly died at the scene.

Following the shooting, angry youths blocked a major road in protest, leading to significant traffic congestion and forcing motorists to find alternative routes.

The reason for the security operation and the subsequent shooting is still unclear. No official statement has been released by authorities regarding the incident.

When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, we have received information about the incident and the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.”

Residents have been advised to stay away from the area until peace is restored.
