IBADAN: The bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo state kicked off today, but early reports point to a very low voter presence, with participation in some polling units dropping below 20 percent as of 10am.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC suggested that inadequate sensitization and voter apathy may have contributed to the poor turnout.

Although security personnel were visibly on ground, several residents lamented the lack of interest shown by the electorate.
At Ward 10, Unit 27 in Ibadan North, a resident, Oluwaseun Omisakin, described the situation as a reflection of public dissatisfaction with the prevailing political environment.
She, however, applauded the orderly conduct of the exercise and commended the efficiency of INEC’s ad-hoc staff.
Voting continues across the constituency, with final results expected later in the day.
