
DUTSE: The All Progressives Congress APC candidate, Mukhtar Rabi’u Garki has emerged victorious in the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency bye-election in Jigawa State.
The party’s flagbearer, Mukhtar Rabi’u Garki, polled 38,449 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isa Auwalu Manzo of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP who secured 13,519 votes, while Sabo Salisu of the New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP came third with 2,931 votes.
The result was announced in the early hours of Sunday at the Babura Local Government collation centre by the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof. Sani Ibrahim Ismail.
Declaring Garki winner, Prof. Ismail said the APC candidate met all constitutional requirements and was duly returned elected.
According to the official declaration, the votes for other candidates were as follows:
Bilkisu Bashiru (Party A) – 11 votes
Ibrahim Habiba (Party AA) – 5 votes
Umar Bashiru (ADC) – 48 votes
Sale Sani (AAA) – 446 votes
Adamu Dahiru (APGA) – 77 votes
Umar Muhammad Gana (APM) – 37 votes
Abdullahi Usman (APP) – 31 votes
Mukhtar Babangida (ZLP) – 31 votes
The bye-election became necessary after the demise of the former lawmaker, Hon. Isa Yaro, who died on May 10, 2024, at the age of 46.
