LOKOJA: The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has announced Hassan Shado of the All Progressives Congress APC, winner of the Okura State Constituency bye-election held Saturday in Kogi State.

The Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Enenche Onome, declared the results at the collation centre in Egume on Saturday night.

According to him, Shado secured 55,073 votes to defeat his closest rivals — the Peoples Democratic Party PDP candidate, who garnered 1,038 votes, and the Allied Peoples Movement APM candidate, who polled 445 votes.

He further noted that results were not declared for other contenders from the Social Democratic Party SDP, African Democratic Congress ADC and Accord Party.

The exercise recorded very low voter turnout, while some opposition parties expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the election and questioned its credibility.
