DUTSE: The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has refuted claims that he was defeated at his polling unit during Saturday’s Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election in Jigawa State.
Reacting to social media reports alleging his loss, the Badaru described the story as “false, untrue, and deliberately misleading.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, his Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mati Ali, clarified that the viral results being circulated were mischievously linked to Badaru from a polling unit that was not his.
“Our attention has been drawn to the circulation of an election result from Babura Kofar Arewa Polling Unit 001, mischievously attributed to the Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni,” Ali said.
“This claim is nothing but the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to distort facts and tarnish the good image of the Honourable Minister.”
He explained that the Badaru’s actual polling unit was Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School PU 002, where he personally voted.
According to official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, the All Progressives Congress APC polled 188 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party PDP secured 164 votes, giving the ruling party victory in the Minister’s polling unit.
“The official result confirms that the Honourable Minister secured a clear and convincing victory in his polling unit in favour of the APC,” the statement emphasized.
Ali therefore urged APC supporters, journalists, and the general public to disregard the misleading reports and rely strictly on INEC’s certified figures.
He reaffirmed that at Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School Polling Unit 002, “His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar emerged victorious during the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday, 17th August, 2025.”
