BENIN: Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has described the victories of Joe Ikpea and Omosede Igbenedion of his ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Saturday’s bye-elections in the state as an indication that the 2027 Presidential Election would be a walkover for the incumbent, Bola Tinubu.

The governor congratulated Senator-elect Joe Ikpea and House of Representatives Member-elect Omosede Igbinedion on their triumphs in the Edo Central Senatorial and Ovia Federal Constituency bye-elections.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor commended voters for turning out in large numbers to support the APC candidates.

He described the victories as a strong indication of the party’s dominance in the state.

Governor Okpebholo declared that the resounding outcome in favour of the APC showed that the 2027 presidential election would be an easy win for President Tinubu in Edo State.

“This victory is a clear indication of the trust and confidence the people have in Ikpea and Igbinedion’s abilities to represent their interests effectively at the National Assembly.

“I have no doubt that Ikpea and Igbinedion will be strong and powerful voices for our State, working tirelessly to attract development and ensure that the people of Edo Central and Ovia Federal Constituency receive the attention they deserve,” he said.

The governor also applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for conducting what he described as a free, fair and credible poll.

He equally commended security agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

Calling for broad support for the newly elected lawmakers, Governor Okpebholo stressed that his administration was committed to collaborating with all elected officials, irrespective of party affiliations, to drive development across Edo State.

“On behalf of the Government and good people of Edo State, I wish Joe Ikpea and Omosede Igbinedion a successful and impactful tenure. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will bring about positive change and prosperity for our State,” the governor stated.
