LAGOS: A viral video showing Lagos police officers assaulting a motorist has forced the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, to dissolve the entire Tactical Squad and order immediate disciplinary trial for the operatives involved.

The footage, widely circulated on social media, captured the moment officers attempted to yank off a driver’s glasses, suspected to contain a hidden camera, before one of them struck him in full view of onlookers.

The incident triggered widespread condemnation and renewed public anger over police brutality.

Reacting, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the officers have been detained and will face an orderly room trial in line with police disciplinary regulations.

To restore public confidence, CP Jimoh disbanded the squad linked to the misconduct and inaugurated a new tactical team.

He pledged that the reconstituted unit would operate under strict adherence to international policing standards, with zero tolerance for corruption and violations of human rights.

“The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to protecting residents with integrity and fairness,” the statement read, urging citizens to keep reporting misconduct through official channels.
