ABUJA: The Nigerian Railway Corporation NRC on Tuesday confirmed the derailment of one of its Kaduna-bound trains along the Abuja-Kaduna corridor.

According to a statement signed by the NRC’s Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, the incident occurred at about 11:09 a.m. around KM 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.
The Corporation said emergency rescue teams, medical personnel and nearby hospitals were immediately mobilized to the scene, while a full complement of security operatives had been deployed to secure passengers and crew.

Mr Opeifa assured that efforts were already underway to safely evacuate all passengers back to Abuja.
“Kindly bear with us at this moment,” the statement added.
The Abuja-Kaduna train service, one of the busiest in the country, has previously faced security and operational challenges, making Tuesday’s incident a matter of significant concern for commuters.
