ABUJA: A network of human rights activists under the aegis of Guard Time Information, has announced the appointment of Barrister Alice Wowuota Iwara as Head of Women and Children Affairs for the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja.

Chairman of the group, Mr Bibi Oduku, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr Oduku commended Barrister Iwara’s passion for women empowerment and child welfare, describing her as a strong advocate capable of championing human rights issues affecting women and children across Abuja and its environs.

In her acceptance remarks, Barrister Iwara expressed gratitude for the appointment, pledging to dedicate her tenure to safeguarding the rights of women and children.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled by this appointment. I intend to use this office as a platform to drive meaningful transformation by promoting policies, initiatives, and interventions that protect women and children while amplifying their voices,” she stated.

She outlined her key priorities to include advocacy against rape, domestic violence, and child abuse; setting up support programmes for survivors; and launching empowerment initiatives that foster women’s economic independence.

Barrister Iwara further pledged to collaborate with government agencies, law enforcement bodies, and non-governmental organizations to ensure justice for victims and build safe spaces for vulnerable groups.

“My focus will also be on community engagement, policy advocacy, and creating environments that uphold the dignity and rights of women and children across the FCT,” she added.

Her appointment is expected to bolster the organization’s efforts in advancing human rights and strengthening support systems for women and children in the nation’s capital.
