
BENIN: Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Inspector General of Police IGP, Dr. Solomon Arase, describing him as a reformer, patriot and dedicated public servant.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo said Edo has lost one of its finest sons and the nation a man of honour and integrity.
“We have lost a great mind, a dedicated public servant, and an exceptional leader. Dr Arase was a man of integrity and honour who served our nation with distinction, rising to the pinnacle of his career through sheer hard work and dedication”, he stated.
Okpebholo highlighted Arase’s career in the Nigeria Police Force, noting that his tenure as IGP was marked by reforms and his push for professionalism and community policing.
“His legacy of service will be remembered for generations. He was a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration to many young police officers and aspiring leaders,” he added.
The governor extended condolences to the Arase family and the entire police force, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
“While we mourn his passing, we take solace in the fact that he lived a life of purpose, impacting positively on all who came in contact with him,” Okpebholo said.
Dr Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who hailed from Edo State and served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector General of Police, passed away over the weekend.
