MAIDUGURI: Nigerian troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralized 13 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Kareto, Borno State, after foiling an ambush and Improvised Explosive Device IED attack on a military convoy escorting humanitarian supplies.

The attack happened on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, along the Gubio–Damasak road, while soldiers were providing armed escort for relief trucks.
Spokesman for Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said the terrorists detonated two IEDs and opened fire, but were overpowered by troops who “swiftly regrouped and suppressed the insurgents with overwhelming firepower.”

He confirmed that 13 terrorists were killed instantly, while others fled.
During a follow-up sweep of the area, soldiers recovered: eight AK-47 rifles, ten AK-47 magazines, a cache of 7.62mm ammunition, camel bags, several primed IEDs, and rolls of detonating cord wires used for making explosives
Although one soldier sustained minor injuries, he is reported to be in stable condition. Four Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected MRAP tyres were damaged, and two trucks were destroyed by fire during the clash.
Despite the attack, Uba confirmed that humanitarian supplies were secured and successfully delivered to Damasak.
“The troops have sustained deliberate operations in the general area to deny terrorists freedom of action while providing security for humanitarian activities,” Uba stated.
