JOS: In yet another bloody incident that underscores the worsening insecurity in Plateau State, gunmen on Sunday night invaded Ikn’gwakap, the headquarters of Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area, killing at least six persons, including women and children.

The Mushere Youth Movement (MUYOM), in a press statement on Monday, described the attack as “another black night in Mushere,” warning that the persistent killings in Plateau communities risk spiraling into deeper instability if urgent action is not taken.

According to the statement signed by MUYOM’s National Publicity Secretary, Kutyil Gashion Nahum, several villagers remain missing after the attack, throwing families into mourning, fear, and trauma.

“It is both alarming and unacceptable that despite repeated attacks on Mushere communities, not a single perpetrator has been arrested or neutralized. This persistent failure highlights the urgent need for a total overhaul of the security architecture in the area,” Nahum said.

The group accused security agencies of failing to protect vulnerable rural communities in Bokkos, saying government inaction has emboldened gunmen to continue terrorizing residents.

“We therefore call on the government at all levels to rise to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property. The continued silence and inaction only embolden terrorists to perpetrate more violence on defenseless communities,” the statement read.

While demanding immediate and decisive government intervention, MUYOM urged residents across Mushere and Bokkos to remain vigilant and united in defending their communities.

“The blood of our people must not continue to be shed in vain. The time for decisive action is now,” the group added.

This latest Mushere attack adds to the series of violent raids that have rocked Plateau State in recent months, particularly in Bokkos, Mangu, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi, where hundreds of lives have been lost to recurring killings blamed on suspected armed herders and bandits.
