Defence Headquarters Launches Probe into Explosion at DICON Factory

ABUJA: The Defence Headquarters DHQ has ordered a full-scale investigation into the ordnance explosion that occurred on Saturday at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria DICON facility in Kaduna, which claimed one life and left several others injured.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, DHQ confirmed that the incident happened on the morning of September 20, 2025, while specialists were carrying out the destruction of expired materials such as Ammonium Nitrates, Primer Caps, Propellants, and other hazardous substances.

“The Defence Headquarters deeply regrets to inform the public of an ordnance explosion at the DICON Kaduna facility. The incident tragically resulted in one fatality and injuries to other personnel. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna,” the statement read.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

DHQ assured that the situation has been brought under control and emphasized that there is no cause for alarm. The surrounding community was also reassured of DICON’s strict adherence to operational safety standards.

The statement further noted that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the explosion and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
