KADUNA: Residents of Kaduna South are experiencing power outages following the collapse of a transmission tower belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN.
The incident, which occurred on September 18, 2025, in Rigasa Community, has disrupted electricity supply to several areas served by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company KAEDCO.
According to TCN, the collapse was triggered by a heavy downpour and windstorm, compounded by vandalism of critical structural components. During inspection, engineers discovered that vandals had carted away parts of Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna Town Line I and II, leaving it vulnerable to the storm.
In a statement signed by the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN explained that the damage directly affected bulk power transmission to KAEDCO load centers supplying Kaduna South.
To cushion the impact, KAEDCO has been directed to link its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, ensuring residents in the Mogadishu axis continue to access power. However, communities such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, and Unguwan Muazu remain unaffected and are still enjoying stable electricity supply.
“TCN engineers are already on-site dismantling the collapsed tower members to clear the area and begin re-erection of a new tower. We sincerely apologize to our customers in Kaduna South and assure them that we are working round the clock to restore power as quickly as possible,” the statement read.
The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining power infrastructure integrity while warning against acts of vandalism, which have continued to threaten Nigeria’s electricity supply network.
