LAGOS: In a bombshell revelation that has set tongues wagging, the Federal Government has announced that even “runs girls” – Nigeria’s slang for commercial sex workers also known as ‘Ashawo’ – will now be forced to cough up taxes under new fiscal laws.

The shocker came from Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, during a fiery engagement at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, Lagos.

“If somebody is doing runs girls, right? They go and look for men to sleep with. You know that’s a service. They will pay tax on it,” Oyedele declared, leaving the audience gasping.

According to him, the new laws don’t care whether your hustle is legit or not — as long as you earn money, the government wants its cut.

“It doesn’t ask if your income is legal or illegal. It only asks, ‘Did you make money from providing a service or selling a product?’ If yes, then pay tax,” he explained.

But there’s some relief: cash gifts are off the hook. Oyedele clarified that money sent to loved ones for upkeep, or even to strangers, will not be taxed since they count as “non-exchange transactions.”

The sweeping reforms, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on July 26, include the Nigeria Tax Act, the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act.

With this move, it seems no hustle — no matter how discreet — can escape the government’s tax net.
