ABUJA: The Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Senator George Akume, has issued a public warning about a criminal syndicate that has cloned his voice to solicit money from high-profile individuals under the guise of federal government appointments.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, Akume revealed that the fraudsters are using his cloned voice and phone numbers of other senior officials to approach potential victims.
The scammers tell their targets they have been shortlisted for federal appointments and demand payment to facilitate the process.
According to the statement, the Office of the SGF has been “inundated with enquiries” about these fraudulent activities.
The scammers’ messages often include bank account details from various financial institutions and fintech companies, with demands for payments ranging from ₦5 million to ₦15 million.
They also ask victims to send their resumes to cloned email addresses.
Senator Akume stressed that all federal government appointment processes are transparent and verifiable, and he urged individuals not to pay money in the expectation of securing a position.
The Office of the SGF said relevant security agencies have been briefed on the matter, urging Nigerians to report any fraudulent activity to the authorities and to take all necessary precautions to avoid becoming victims.
