ABUJA: Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, will be absent from this year’s World Bank and International Monetary Fund IMF Annual Meetings in Washington DC due to ill health.

In his place, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, has been designated to head the country’s delegation to the high-profile gathering, which opens on Monday, October 13.

Cardoso, who serves as Nigeria’s Alternate Governor at the Bretton Woods institutions, will be joined by the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, in representing the country at the meetings.

According to the World Bank, the Annual Meetings will feature the Development Committee Plenary session on October 16 and the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) meeting on October 17.

Other sessions will include regional briefings, press conferences, and discussions on international development, global economic challenges, and financial markets.

The meetings are expected to attract central bankers, finance ministers, policymakers, private sector leaders, and civil society groups from around the world.
