.20 km stretch to be completed by December

BENIN: Construction has officially begun on the Benin-Asaba dual carriage way, with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo announcing that 20 kilometers are expected to be completed by December 2025.

The governor made the announcement during a comprehensive inspection tour of major infrastructure projects in Benin City, which he lauded as direct results of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The governor’s tour included the Benin-Asaba expressway, the reconstruction of Amufi Road, and the ongoing flyover construction at Ramat Park, all of which are intended to improve connectivity and economic growth in the region.

The Benin-Asaba expressway is the centerpiece of the projects. Governor Okpebholo, visibly impressed by the progress, highlighted the federal government’s commitment to the project.

He affirmed; “Well, this is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President. He is taking this road straight to Asaba. It is going to be 10 lanes. Five on one side, five on the other side.”

The governor also emphasized the project’s importance, stating it was a direct outcome of high-level government meetings.

“Remember when this road was flagged off a few months ago, the Minister for Works was here. The Minister for Finance was also here. And I was here. This is the fruit of that flag-off. And this is the demonstration of Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for our people”, he added.

Project Director for Africa Plus Partners, Mr. K. V. Rao, confirmed the project’s timeline, explaining that the current work involves creating a diversion for traffic.

“Real work is going to commence on August 5th, 2025,” Rao said.

He elaborated that the road would be transformed into a 10-lane expressway with two main carriageways and two dedicated service roads on each side.

Beyond the expressway, Governor Okpebholo also inspected the Amufi Road reconstruction, which connects four communities—Amufi, Okpagha, Iyanomo, and Egiekpe—and the flyover at Ramat Park, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city.
