BENIN: President Bola Tinubu has hailed Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for what he described as a groundbreaking infrastructure revolution, particularly the construction of Edo’s first-ever flyover bridge in Benin City.
The President, represented by the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, said the one-kilometre flyover project at Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area is a landmark intervention that will ease traffic congestion, improve urban mobility, and reposition Edo as a hub of modern development.
“This is a 24-span bridge, each measuring 20 metres, making it a one-kilometre stretch. The pace and quality of work are impressive. With projects like this, Edo is entering a new era of urban renewal,” Umahi stated on behalf of the President.
Tinubu commended Okpebholo’s bold use of concrete technology in road construction, stressing that durable roads could last up to 100 years and save the country from wasteful spending on repeated repairs. He added that the governor’s efforts reflect the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) progressive vision for development.
Governor Okpebholo, visibly delighted, thanked President Tinubu for his support, saying his administration was committed to reversing years of infrastructural decay in Edo.
“We are succeeding because of the President’s encouragement. I cannot rest without thinking of what next to do for my people. Edo’s infrastructure had collapsed over the years, but we are determined to rebuild with competence and passion,” the governor declared.
He pledged to continue prioritizing projects that directly improve the lives of Edo citizens, adding that his administration was assembling experts to deliver lasting solutions to the state’s infrastructure challenges.
In a rare show of bipartisan support, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Segun Sowunmi, also applauded the governor’s infrastructure revolution, noting that real development transcends party politics.
“When Edo people are happy, Nigerians are happy. The kind of leadership and projects we see in Edo today are what can transform Nigeria, one state at a time,” Sowunmi said.
